Art Themed Mindfulness (ATM) in Sports Performance and Personal Wellbeing

 

Objective:

To identify and implement the theoretical contents and practical exercises of art-based interventions in mindfulness approach for sports and personal wellbeing

 

Description:

The introduction of third-wave cognitive behavioural approaches in sport psychology, such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT; Hayes et al., 2004), mindfulness acceptance commitment (MAC; Gardner & Moore, 2007) and Mindful Sport Performance Enhancement (MSPE; Kaufman, Glass, & Pineau, 2018), are providing practitioners with more mental tools in providing effective psychological support to high performance athletes. Art themed mindfulness approach (A.T.M.) is an evidence-based practice, that incorporating the benefits of mindfulness training within the structure of an art therapy framework, to enhance the positive qualities of psychological skills training. Through this workshop, the various facets of applied art and mindfulness approaches within high performance sport would be explored. Participants will have the opportunity to practice the exercises and navigate components of reflection to their respective sports and life. Real case examples of applied sports psychology will also be presented, and individuals will be asked to discuss and reflect on how they would act in similar situation.
